Nikon D5600 Review

It does, however, have one major advantage over the others. Only Nikon DX-format SLRs featuring a vari-angle screen are the D5000-series cameras. Because of its novice-friendliness, vari-angle screen, and tiny size, the series is perfect for both first-time camera users and photography students. The D5600 is almost as compact and light as a mirrorless SLR camera, yet the grip is deep and well-sculpted, so you still feel like you have a good grasp. However, some of the buttons are rather tiny. This has no effect on their functionality, although the icons are a little more difficult to read. The camera's Live View functionality is transformed by the new AF-P 18-55mm lens. Although not as quick as a mirrorless camera, the Live View focusing' quickness and responsiveness are surprising – and it works well with the screen's touch control. You may just tap an object in the scene to have the camera concentrate on it and take a photo in one move.

The D5600's Matrix metering system performs admirably in a variety of lighting conditions, while you may need to use negative exposure correction in high-contrast scenarios to preserve highlight detail and recover shadow detail in post-production if necessary. When shooting JPEG files, the D5600's Active D-Lighting feature can be advantageous in such scenarios, maintaining better detail in both the highlights and shadows. The D5600's auto white balance system functioned admirably in a variety of lighting circumstances, producing natural-looking results. However, photographs taken under artificial lighting might appear yellowish, so you might want to use one of the specific white balance presets. By today's standards, the burst shooting speed of 5fps is rather slow. Many mirrorless cameras of equivalent price and quality provide far better speed in this area, so if action is your thing, this could be worth considering. The findings from the 24.2MP chip, which uses the same sensor as the D5500 (and very much the same sensor as the D5300), didn't surprise us when we originally evaluated it, and it continues to be an excellent performer in terms of picture quality. With all of those pixels crammed onto the sensor, resolution is excellent, and the lack of a low-pass filter allows for the recording of delicate details (though you'll need something better than the 18-55mm kit lens for the best results), while there's also plenty of room for acceptable enlargements. Low-sensitivity images appear to be incredibly clear, with little to no noise. The D5600's processing starts to encroach on picture quality at ISO800, although this has no negative influence on photographs. It's only at ISO6400 and beyond that the D5600's processing truly starts to infringe on image quality. Detail starts to degrade at ISO6400, as both luminance and chroma noise become noticeable. While photos are still passable at higher sensitivity settings, detail continues to deteriorate, with saturation significantly diminished.

Shooting with the D5600 is a far cry from shooting with a large enthusiast SLR like the D500. It's small and inconspicuous, but its image quality is excellent, and the vari-angle screen gives it a lot of flexibility. Now that this DSLR is getting on in years, it's basically just a matter of securing a substantially discounted pricing.
